The Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP®)

The Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP®) is a recognised qualification awarded by The London Institute of Banking & Finance. The CeMAP® qualification was developed with the co-operation of the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML).

The CeMAP® qualification is suitable for anybody providing mortgage advice. CeMAP® is a nationally recognised RQF level 3 qualification.

CeMAP® qualification

CeMAP is a Level 3 qualification registered with Ofqual in the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). It meets the FCA examination standards for providing advice on mortgage products and is an approved qualification in the mortgage advice apprenticeship standards.

The CeMAP® qualification is made up of 3 modules, all of which must be completed to achieve the qualification.

  • CeMAP® Module 1: UK Financial Regulation.
  • CeMAP® Module 2: Mortgages.
  • CeMAP® Module 3: Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge.

CeMAP® Examinations

CeMAP® 1 (module 1) is assessed in a two hour exam, made up of two units, and a score of 70% must be achieved in each unit to pass the module. A mark of 80% or higher receives a merit, and a mark of 90% or over receives a distinction.

CeMAP® 2 (module 2) assessed in a two hour exam, made up of four units, and a score of 68% must be achieved in each unit to pass the module. A mark of 80% or higher receives a merit, and a mark of 88% or over receives a distinction.

CeMAP® 3 (module 3) is assessed in a two hour exam, but is made up of 60 questions based on six case studies. A mark of 80% or higher receives a merit, and a mark of 90% or over receives a distinction.

Should you fail a specific unit, you only have to resit that specific unit rather than the entire module.

The examination can be taken in most town and cities in the UK, (at driving theory test centres) and are computer based. You receive your results immediately.
